HOLLOWAY PRISON PROJECT
WIN has just completed a 6 week Creative Development Project at Holloway Prison which was designed to offer participants an opportunity to learn about different faiths and provide a safe and enabling forum. Following lengthy discussions participants were given an opportunity to do a written piece facilitated by a creative writing specialist – Vivienne Wolf. She worked with participants through a creative approach to self expression, to encourage them to express their views on paper.
In addition Gilda Levy (Chairperson WIN), Polly Harrar (WIN Committee Member) and Marion Waruguru (WIN Development Officer) facilitated sessions aimed at:
- Heightening awareness of faiths and cultures
- Exploring core values and similarities of diverse faiths
- assisting participants to talk and write what they found most interesting
- Showing examples of stereotyping in literature
Several faith leaders were invited to speak about their particular faith at each session and participants were able to learn about the Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and Bahai faiths.
We had 18 women attending each week on average and many said that they had learned so much about the diverse faiths and their similarities. A full report will be available shortly.
